Amie Butler, JD, MSN, FNP-C is a Nurse Attorney/Investigator with Ferrentino + Brotz. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Whittier College with a major in Biology and minor in Religion; her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Emory University; her Master of Science in Nursing from Kennesaw State University; and her Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University, Magna cum laude. Amie is both an Attorney and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has fulfilled roles in both areas throughout her career.

Early in her career, Amie took care of children as a Registered Nurse and then transitioned to her role as a Family Nurse Practitioner, treating patients of all ages in primary, elderly and injury care. Amie also has experience in the areas of case management and utilization review. She worked in the denials/appeals department of a major medical center helping get coverage for complex cases and recuperating unpaid claims along with participating in regulatory reviews and process improvements.

As an attorney, Amie has handled Worker’s Compensation, Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice and Mass Torts cases. As a nurse, she understands what it is like to be “in the trenches” caring for patients which enhances her understanding of the issues involved with medical malpractice and injury claims. Amie has empathy and compassion for parties involved in medical malpractice litigation. Understanding the intersection of law and medicine is her passion.

Amie has been a guest speaker on panels for classes at both Emory University and Nova Southeastern University regarding the intersection of law and medicine/nursing as well as participating as a panelist  for Mass Torts and understanding Medical Damages for attorneys. She loves helping others understand these topics and helping nurses provide safe care but also protect themselves in chaotic environments. Amie and a colleague authored a firm blog during the Covid pandemic providing weekly updates explaining and clarifying all of the contradicting and confusing information at the time.

Amie is licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in Florida, Oregon, and Washington and is a member of both the Florida and Georgia Bars.
